Our Process

Choosing the Right Partner Matters Most

Building a home is a major undertaking. The difference between a stressful experience and a rewarding one is having the right people by your side.

At CornerStone, we guide you through a clear, thoughtful process that removes stress, simplifies decisions, and protects the integrity of the home at every stage. From the first conversation through move-in, owners Caleb and Taylor Downing remain hands-on and personally involved throughout the entire process. You’re not coordinating vendors, tracking timelines, or managing construction. That’s a full-time job, and that’s our job.

We build a limited number of homes each year for a reason. It allows us to stay present, take responsibility, and do the work the right way, without rushing or handing you off along the way.

This is a full-service process built around care, clarity, and trust.

Our Process? Full-Service. Personally Led.

Standing Behind the Work

Handing over the keys isn’t where things stop.

We stay involved, stand behind our work through warranties and scheduled follow-ups, and remain a resource as you settle into your home. For many clients, that continued care is what brings them back years later to build again.

Every home we build represents a relationship we care about long after completion.

1

The Initial Conversation

Every project begins with a conversation. We talk through:

  • how you live and what matters most
  • where you plan to build
  • the type of home you’re envisioning
  • early budget considerations

This step sets direction and ensures alignment before anything moves forward. From the very beginning you get one team, clear communication, and owners who are personally invested in the outcome of your home.

2

Planning & Design

Once the direction is clear, we move into planning and design. This phase is collaborative and intentionally paced. Layout, flow, architectural details, and materials are considered together so the home feels cohesive and personal.

Design decisions and selections are made in stages, not all at once, so the process remains manageable rather than overwhelming.

Our process follows a clearly defined planning and construction timeline, with key decisions made early to keep the build moving smoothly.

3

Preparing to Build

Before construction begins, we finalize plans, pricing, and details so expectations are clear.

This phase includes:

  • engineering and permitting coordination
  • final selections and specifications
  • scheduling and construction preparation

Taking the time to prepare properly allows the build phase to move forward with fewer surprises and better outcomes.

4

Building the Home

During construction, CornerStone manages the entire build. Scheduling, trade coordination, quality control, and communication are handled by our team, with the owners remaining closely involved throughout.

Because of the way we work, this level of oversight isn’t an exception, it’s the norm. You’ll have opportunities to walk the home as it comes together and talk through decisions as they arise.

5

Completion & Move-In

As the home nears completion, we walk through everything together, review final details, and make sure the home meets both our standards and yours.

Move-in should feel exciting and seamless. A moment that reflects the care, planning, and attention that went into every step along the way.
